Yeah, the news out of England isn’t good, well, at least it isn’t good if your a Doctor Who fan. David Tennant, the current running Doctor, is leaving the show. But then, if you’re a long time fan of the show, you saw this day coming, now didn’t you?
In terms of the show alone, David was the tenth Doctor to helm the Tardis, battle Daleks, and crack many a fun quip along the way. When you mix in all the actors and actresses who have appeared as the Doctor (or a Doctor), then the list grows to near the thirties (and includes Mr. Bean!). Though Christopher Eccleston kicked off this latest incarnation of the Doctor, it has been Tennant who has become the face of the new Doctor Who.
The Times Online has a fantastic story detailing Tennant’s stepping down, and I recommend you read it if you’re interested on the betting odds of the next doctor. Apparently, there’s 3-to-1 odds on Patterson Joseph becoming the next doctor and, if it happens, the first black Doctor. Hmmm…

So, how do you think the present Doctor bows out? The show isn't saying, but Russell Davies, the show's producer joked that he might "drop an anvil on his head. Or maybe a piano. A radioactive piano." Oh those sentimental Brits, it's enough to make you tear up. Of course, then Davies assures us that a huge and amazing ending is coming, so tune in (which always sounds better than, we have something incredibly banal and tired in mind so, if you don't have anything better to do, you know, watch us or something).
Well okay, in all honesty, replacing David Tennant won't be easy, but if history is any indication, it will be done and the show will go on. Because, while the actor's stints might be relatively brief, you can't keep the good Doctor down.
Oh, and while we're switching things up again...could we maybe bring the scarf back? Just saying...
At least we still have another year-plus of him! But I'll be sad to see Tennant go.
That's true; there is one more year of Tennant. The guy has become the face of the rebooted franchise and, while the Doctor Who franchise is a strong one, I wouldn't want to be the one stepping in right after David.
