An Awkward Guest Column

Ahoy! My name’s Peter Tatara. I’m the Director of Industry Development with New York Comic Con, the New York Anime Festival, and the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo. Long, long ago I had lunch with the Suvudu team, over which it was decided they’d host some events at NYCC and I’d contribute a column or two to the site. They knocked their part out of the park at New York Comic Con earlier this year with some excellent discussions, but up until now, I’ve been completely mute. How come?

First, I honestly don’t think they’ve seen any of my posts on blogs www.mediumatlarge.net and www.giantrobotsfightinggod.com, as if they had, I don’t think the offer to talk (and curse) on Suvudu would have been offered at all.

Second, while I say (and curse) about whatever I please on the aforementioned blogs, they’re mine. Suvudu’s not. Writing on Suvudu.com’s an honor that I’m truly privileged to have, and I don’t want to muck it up with pedantic, weak nonsense. Much like this first post is becoming.

Third, if I’m not posting nonsense, I’m talking about New York Comic Con, the New York Anime Festival, and the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo. I supervise guests, panels, screenings, concerts, and special events at these events, and while it’s cool for me to talk about this on www.mediumatlarge.net and www.giantrobotsfightinggod.com, doing so on Suvudu just seems kind of cheap. I don’t want to come over to a friend’s house just to try to sell him stuff, and while posts about NYCC, NYAF, and C2E2 wouldn’t intentionally be me trying to hock tickets, even I’d look at them after they were written up and comment about how I was a tool.

So, where’s this leave me? Leaves me a few paragraphs deep into a pretty bland first post, but with these concerns stated front and center, at least you’ll know where I’m coming from in the future. That is until this gets buried by Ali T. Kokmen’s opus review of Knights of Bloodsteel.

But I don’t want to waste any more of your time. Expect more posts — actual posts — coming soon. Until then, I’ll leave you with this thought…

What was up with last night’s Lost? Instead of Daniel Faraday’s return, we get a clip show. I’ve been counting the days since Faraday was last spotted on the island and can’t really go seven more until Lost’s geek superman steps back on stage.

I want to hear more about the Chicago show!

Oh, you're welcome in our house any time. And no matter what you post, I doubt we'd ever call you a tool.

To your face anyway ;-)

Well, there are three things to like about this:

1. More Peter Tatara!

2. An opus review by Ali Kokmen.

3. The possibility for stories about panels, guests, and Comic-Cons.

It's all gravy in my book!

Alright Peter Tatara! We've been waiting for you! Give us all the good dish on NYCC, NYAF, and C2E2.

Yay! Can't wait to hear more from you, sir.
