A friend of mine passed this along to me - there is apparently an orchestral tour of Final Fantasy music! It’s called the Distant Worlds Tour and they’re still playing now. See if they’re coming to a city near you!
Here’s a sneak peek of the battle theme from FFVIII (you can find plenty of videos of other songs on YouTube as well):

I was lucky enough to see the Dear Friends Final Fantasy Tour with Mr. Uemetsu back in February of 2005 in Chicago and I absolutely loved it. I am a huge fan of VGM (Video Game Music) and my otaku dorkdum just erupted at the show. I highly recommend to anyone if you are able to go it's worth the money.
I'm so glad that you posted this. Classical music, though it doesn't enjoy the street cred of other genres, still plays an incredibly active roll in entertainment. I had always thought that involvement skewed heavily towards the movies, but now that I think about it, the gaming world is probably filled with classical and neo-classical scores.
Also, this orchestra piece rocks. There are very few songs that can't be improved by an orchestra. When are they coming through New York and what is appropriate dress?
[side note: I can't stand it when the crowd starts cheering in the middle of an opening. Pet peeve coming through there. Sorry.]
That is so cool!! I'm very jealous. Did they show the video game footage while playing the entire time?
