Nestled in the gently rolling hills of Brooklyn, the Brooklyn Superhero Supply Company sells only the finest gear, capes, and supplies for any superhero who needs to restock. I happened to walk by one day when the invisibility shield wasn’t on and was amazed at the wide assortment of products they offered. An air cannon?? Just what I had been looking for! The people at the store were also very helpful, giving me a free De-villainization (happens to the best of us) and offering me a cape test in their patented Capery. I’d highly recommend them.
Okay, okay. So you’re wondering what the catch is?
While they do really sell superhero supplies, the money benefits 826NYC, a tutoring/writing center for kids founded by author Dave Eggers. I recently started volunteering there and it's interesting to see the wide spectrum of people's reactions to the store.
There are those that walk in tentatively and ask what it is. When I respond with our usual answer, "The finest superhero supply company in all 5 boroughs," these are the people who shake their heads and ask over and over until I tell them about the secret tutoring room in the back and our real mission. Others are ready to play and inhabit the character of a superhero shopping - definitely the most fun to riff with.
Anyway, if you're in the area or about to make a visit, I'd definitely stop in! Unless you're a supervillain, of course.
