Take Our Chat: X-Men Misfits Authors, Dave Roman and Raina Telgemeier

So, as you may have heard, last week we had Dave Roman and Raina Telgemeier in for a live chat. They spoke about writing X-Men: Misfits, about collaborating with each other and with Anzu half-way around the world, about their upcoming projects, and even helped us clean up afterward. Aren’t they great?

Of course, part of the fun of doing these chats is allowing you to grab it and run with it on your own site. Go ahead! All you need to do is download the embed code

Don’t want to download it? Well, that’s cool. Just select all the code in the box below and copy-paste it into your site.

So what else did we cover? Dave and Raina gave us some examples of who inspired various characters…

2:40 Tricia, Del Rey editor:  Who were some of your inspirations for the characters?
2:40 Dave Roman:  David: That's a very good question! One I could think on for years! But my immediate answer would be that I would love to manga based on the Chrestomanci series of novel by Dianna Wynn Jones.
2:40 Raina:  Yes! As Tricia mentioned, we had a very specific set of ideas for which character would be based on which real-life archetype. We looked at a lot of musicians and actors.

2:41 Suvudu:  Magneto
2:41 Tricia, Del Rey editor:  I remember you saying that Magneto was sort of inspired by Tim Gunn!
2:42 Raina:  For some of the characters, we simply took a well-known actor or celebrity, and told Anzu that was how we wanted them to look. For example, I wanted Magneto to be based on Tim Gunn, from Project Runway!
2:42 [Comment From Deb]: Right, i remember hearing that Magneto was based on Tim Gunn from Project Runway -- were there other famous people that the X-Men Misfits characters were based on?
2:42 Raina:  Tricia and Raina cross lines! Ha ha.
2:42 Raina:  And Deb!
2:42 Dave Roman:  Ali: Comics are all I have to work with (in other words no other skills)! I just lucked out that I found a fellow kindred spirit who appreciates my obsession. :)
2:42 Raina:  Let's see if we can give you some more examples.

And of course, they did give us a few more. Want to know who inspired the likes of Storm, Nightcrawler, and Pyro (the latter of which, might surprise you)? You'll have to check the chat to find out.

In the meantime, take our chat and run with it. Enjoy!
