Greetings loyal Suvudu readers!
Welcome to the inaugural post of what hopes to be a weekly segment - Suvudu’s Metal Mayhem!
Metal Mayhem! Is a weekly look at what we’ve found in the interwebs involving all things sci-fi, fantasy, video games etc…married to the sometimes terrifying, sometimes inspiring, oftentimes mesmerizing mastery of a style of music worthy of geeking-out - METAL!
Whether it’s a concept album based on a novel or series, or a tribute to a movie or video game featuring a kickass metal song, one thing is for certain - the metal genre is often the most appropriate musical form to paying homage to all things geekspeak. Metal Mayhem! is a celebration for this unique marriage of inspiration, creativity and glorious sonic bombardment. Of course, information on the bands chronicled will be provided.
So let’s get started, shall we?
Our inaugural post features the extreme power metal band DRAGONFORCE. From their 2006 break-out album Inhuman Rampage, here is the official music video to “Operation Ground and Pound”. It’s a sick, extremely technical and pedal to the metal track that features tons of explosions, spaceship laser beams, and a sick video game/serious shredding guitar solo duel!
Founded in the UK in 1999, DRAGONFORCE’s musical stylings have often been called “Bon Jovi on Speed” or “Journey meets Slayer”. Many of their songs have been inspired by various works in the fantasy genre, and their guitar tunings make listeners and fans alike reminisce of old school video game music.
What do you think? Like what you see/hear? Let me know in the comments! And if you have a song or band request / recommendation, again let me know in the comments!
Until next time,
HAIL!!

Not being a big metal fan in general, I am not sure that I would agree that Metal is the most appropriate soundtrack for geekspeak - at least not in my head. My son, however, loves metal and might disagree.
