I posted an article (Jessica of Dune Cover Art & Interview) this morning on Suvudu showcasing the Stephen Youll cover artwork for the forthcoming Tor Books book Jessica of Dune, and it got me thinking:
What artists do you guys like most on book covers?
I like:
- Michael Whelan: Who doesn't, right?
- Todd Lockwood: Great artist on Salvatore/Erikson books.
- Justin Sweet: His art on Newcomb's books blew the books away.
- Steve Stone: One of the better digital artist going, love his Shannara covers.
- Stephen Youll: Fell in love with his work on the US GRRM covers.
- Darrell K. Sweet: His early stuff, on Terry Brooks and Stephen R. Donaldson, was magical!
- John Jude Pelancar: He can be moody or colorful. Love both.
- Cheryl Griesbach & Stanley Martucci: Their work on Jacqueline Carey's books is sexily fantastic!

Komarck for his work on GRRM's stuff, he's also doing the artwork for Sub Press's limited edition of Gardens of the Moon.
Dave McKean for his Neil Gaiman stuff.
Dave McKean's stuff is brilliant. I'm especially fond of his cross-medium approach.
Besides the wonderful artists already mentioned I would add Alan Lee as well as Greg and Tim Hidebrandt.
Komarck. Of course. Brilliant artist! As are the Hildebrandts.
I've always been a huge fan of Caniglia although he is definitely a horror artist.

Caniglia is great, you are right, Hero Killer! Love his work. Hadn't seen it before just now. Reminds me a lot of Brom in ways, who I also like very much.
