So, given that Westeros has a temporary ban on posts relating to George R R Martin and his forthcoming book, how long do you think it'll take before we bring the conversation over here?
I'm looking around and I see no such restrictions in place. :-)

I guess since we don't really have moderators here yet, any discussion about GRRM and the perceived lateness of Dragons will not be flame-retarded. haha
Nope, it wouldn't be that, but it could...
Wait, let me stop there.
I set ya up, Kyle! Was waiting for the finish! haha
I find it ammusing that a site devoted to GRRM has banned discussion ON GRRM.....
Careful there, TJ. If you think about it for too long, the universe will implode.
You're right though, it's a little bit funny.
Only on the specific release date for ADWD. As for why, then all I can say is take all the recent flamewars and arguments and counter-arguments and try spending an hour a day dealing with them, every day, for three and a half years. It reached the point where we (the moderators on the Westeros forum) didn't really want to deal with it any more and the arguments just went around in circles. This is also why, I gather, GRRM has stopped addressing the question.
It was amusing how many people came up to the Spectra book at the NY Comic Con this last weekend and asked about the release date of Dragons. And they were all polite. :) But get some of them online and they turn into something else altogether. haha
Shawn, I am wondering if it's more of a case that the ones who are worst online would be enough in the know not to bother asking at the Con?
I have really been enjoying your posts about Comicon, keep up the great work!
I'm entirely pissed off at GrrM for delaying this book further. Oh wait I haven't read the previous entries yet. Feel free to flame me it will make you feel better. And may yet get me to sit down and read those monsters.
I expect the most outspoken critics wouldn't have the nerve to be impolite at a booth in person where they lack the freeing anonymity of the internet to shield them.
Actually, you'd be surprised how good the people coming to the booth were. For the most part, it was a lot of frustration mixed in with a good deal of anticipation. Almost every discussion I got into at the Spectra booth (104, by my count) ended in the agreement that we want the book to be awesome, rather than just to be finished.
That said, we really, really want it to be finished!
Probably the most offensive thing people would say--and I understand they were just trying some black humor, but come on, people--is that they wonder if Martin is "going to pull a Robert Jordan."
Ouch.
While I understand how into these books you are, there's a line, and if you asked me this question, I might have been a bit more curt with my response--because you crossed it. Asking if Martin if he's going to die before he finishes is literary equivalent of an ambulance chaser.
God knows how much respect those guys get.
The whole Jordan comparison has pissed me off too, David, especially when you look at the facts and see George has been writing the books at a 3 year clip from the beginning. If these people were worried about his age, perhaps they shouldn't have started the series until after it was finished -- or, like me, stop reading it altogether in the middle. But no, they can't take responsibility. It is all on George why those people aren't happy. haha It's a pretty sad thing, I think.
