  • Love this series, dragons fighting in Victorian England! His Majesty's Dragon is still my favorite, Novik does an excellent job making it a believable alternative history, and her aerial fight scenes are really tense. Haven't read past the third book yet, hope the other two are as good!

  • Sorry Just wanted to mention that the series takes place in during the Napoleanic wars and George III was King and his son GeorgeIV was regent. It was about 50 years before Victoria.
Some people were dissapointed in the last book but I am still an avid fan and thought it nwas every bit as good as the first 4.

  • I have trouble keeping Regency straight from Victorian too. The salient point is that either is greatly improved by the presence of DRAGONS! At least from a story telling point of view.

These alternate histories are so often interesting; just change one thing and look how the world turns out. Dragons may be a little obvious, but everybody loves them, and they make great fantasy.

Those of us who want subtle, well Random House is letting us get at the Turtledove series too, and he may rightly be seen as the modern master of the more SF form of the subgenre.
