(NOTE: These are MY highlights, and as such may bear little to no relationship to the More Objective List of ComicCon Highlights, such as Johnny Depp’s “surprise” appearance, or the Megan Fox sex-tape invite.)

In no particular order:

—snagging a copy of a Judge Dredd collection that includes the legendary story “Oz”, thereby filling the biggest single hole in my 2000 A.D. collection. (And having another copy of Dredd’s battle with the mutant rat Rentakill is never a bad thing.)
—meeting Madeline (whose last name I didn’t catch); she was over at ace illustrator Stephen Martiniere’s booth, and it turned out she was THE model for Claire Haskell in Martiniere’s amazing cover of BURNING SKIES. Crazy, huh?
—doing a panel on Tomorrow’s Technology with Greg Bear, among others, which got picked up on Discover Magazine’s blog.
—signing copies of MIRRORED HEAVENS at the Bantam booth… thanks to everybody at Suvudu!
—meeting comics legend Larry Young, who gave me a copy of the groundbreaking cyberpunk comic SHATTER.
—watching all conversation stop as Stan Lee walked into the restaurant at the Marriott.
—getting a copy of Nick Sagan’s SHRAPNEL. If you’re looking for a cool graphic novel that deals with warfare across the solar system, look no further.
—eating a pretzel-hotdog. I’d never heard of these, but they’re as tasty and unhealthy as they sound.
—finding out Titan Books stipulated in the contract that the new Judge Dredd movie will never, ever show him without his helmet. Now I can pretend that other movie never happened….

David J. Williams is the author of near-future dystopian thriller THE BURNING SKIES, and posts every Wednesday on Suvudu. Learn more about his work at www.autumnrain2110.com.

If you don’t know, the last Tuesday of every month is traditionally when new books are released (as opposed to the first Tuesday of the month for DVDs and CDs). Why Tuesday is anyone’s guess. I like to think it has something to do with the idea that books disclose the thoughts of the author, and since, when they are published, their “Voices Carry,” the day is appropriate.

(And you thought we couldn’t get a ‘Til Tuesday reference on Suvudu!)

Well, this past Tuesday was a big one for Spectra, as we had a number of authors with new releases, including some veterans to the game and some wonderful debuts.
