With all of this Star Wars talk lately, I’ve been thinking about adding something into my work space that reflects my love for those movies.

So while out hunting today for the perfect item, I ran across one of my favorite Star Wars scenes ever—in statue form!

As you can see above, Sideshow Collectibles has produced a simply great piece of work in Yoda & Clone Trooper. I happened to really enjoy Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith—minus the love dialog between Padme and Anakin, of course—and one of my favorite scenes from that movie or any of the six movies is highlighted in that statue.

A lethal Yoda storming the Jedi Temple, having thrown his light saber through the chest of a Clone Trooper, leaps up to withdraw his weapon.

It gives me shivers just looking at it!

I must have it. It’s perfect.

If you haven’t checked out Sideshow Collectibles, do it.

Your inner geek will thank you!

Now if I could only afford that Venom statue too…

Hmm…..

These are not toys. You’re about to enter the world of collectible statues from one of the best studios around: Sideshow Collectibles. I stopped by their display booth to take a few pictures of the amazingly detailed figures they have on display (and for sale). They sweetened the pot though, as they were giving out mystery gift cards to each person who stopped by. So if you’re heading to Comic-Con, make sure to stop by their booth - you’re getting some free money.

Now, want to see everything from Cobra Commander to the Tick? I know you do. Here’s some of the great work that Sideshow does (a word of warning, protect your bank account before viewing the pictures below):

These past few days I’ve been manning the “booth,” or the small space between the Del Rey and Crown booths to be more precise, and haven’t been able to get out and about very often. Today, that changed as my mission morphed from hand out bags to anyone who asks for one (meaning just about anyone with a pulse) to wander around and blog the Con. And while our bags are well made and wonderful, the latter mission is much more exciting.

So, I was able to break away for about 30 minutes this morning before running off to snap a few shots of Terry Brooks’ autograph session*. Here are a few things I saw during my all-too-brief running wild time:

The Life-sized Bumblebee

Bumblebee at Comic-Con 2009

The Transformers are more than 20 years old now, but no less cool than when they first transformed and rolled out. This Bumblebee is more than 25 feet tall, towering over the convention floor. You can see he’s standing next to a mock-up of the TF:Animated Blitzwing. Sweet. If you’re a fan of the films, you might also want to know that Alan Dean Foster (author of the Pip & Flinx novels) has been writing the novels for Del Rey. He also wrote a pretty sweet between-the-films books, The Veiled Threat which fills in the time between the movies with additional goings-on in the Transformers universe.

brett-greatbazaar.jpgI love it when some of my favorite things come together into one great collectible item!

  • Peter V. Brett is one of the nicest and most fun writers you will ever meet.
  • Subterranean Press is a small specialty press producing some of the highest quality fully illustrated editions of fantasy and science fiction books in the marketplace.
  • The Warded Man, titled The Painted Man in the UK, is one of the breakout debut books of 2009.

Put all of those together with a gorgeous cover, and one great book is forthcoming!

Subterranean Press announced today that they will be producing The Great Bazaar and Other Stories, a collection of short stories set in the same demon-ridden world as The Warded Man. It will contain a long new sotyr, as well as several outtakes from the first novel in the series—really, standalone short stories themselves—as well as additional material to flesh out Brett’s bravura storytelling.

In addition to the small trade hardcover, Subterranean Press is producing only 200 signed numbered copies, which, given Brett and epic fantasy’s popularity, are certain to sell quickly!

The Great Bazaar and Other Stories will be released in January 2010.

Also announced today is a very cool limited edition of Joe Abercrombie’s The Blade Itself, the first volume of one of the grittiest, most exciting, bloody epic fantasy trilogies to come down the pike in over a decade. As Joe is also one of the best fantasy writers going right now, read more about the Subterranean Press edition HERE!

I love beautiful special editions! Nice job, Subterranean!
