Thanks for looking at this post and for celebrating with us! Unfortunately, this contest has ended. Be sure to check back for future contests and other cool things going on. - Team Suvudu

What do a signed edition of Storm Front by Jim Butcher (graphic novel), a signed edition of The Warded Man by Peter Brett a signed edition of The City & The City by China Miéville and a signed edition of The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia have in common?

We’re giving one copy of each away to celebrate our 1-year anniversary! So, it breaks down this way:

1 Winner per prize x 4 Prizes = 4 Winners

And all you have to do is this: tell us (via email) which Suvudu post is your favorite. Once you do that, you’ll be entered into the pool of entrants for the prizes above. You have until midnight on July 25 (Saturday) to enter. Then, on Monday, July 27, we’ll select 4 entrants at random to be our winners!

As always, you can read the legal for more details.

It’s easy! You already know your answer!

More excerpt chapters will be released before Turn Coat is released on April 7!

Jim is one of the coolest people I have met and had in my home. He exudes ironical humor, carries a fun wit, and he inserts all of it into his writing. Turn Coat will be another bestseller, assuredly, and if you have a chance to meet Jim on tour or at a convention I highly recommend it!

Plus I think he is really lucky to have Chris McGrath as his cover artist!

Happy Reading!

Happy Birthday, Harry Dresden

Happy Birthday, Harry Dresden!

Today, Harry Dresden turns… something. Not sure what! Perhaps someone can enlighten me to that little stat. At any rate, today is his birthday and I hope Jim Butcher is somewhere celebrating the genius of his creation! If you haven’t read Storm Front, definitely go out and do so. It is a quick fun read that leads into more quick and fun reads!

To celebrate, here are some fun Harry Dresden links:

  • The Official Jim Butcher Website - All things Jim Butcher (and his wife Shannon) is on this website! He does a great job of keeping his fans up to date with what is going on, a testament to his fanboy roots and the webmaster who conducts it all. Great stuff.

  • The Dresden Files: Welcome to the Jungle - This newly released hardcover graphic novel compiles the four-issue prequel to Storm Front, written by Jim Butcher! It is a quick read but has the fun flourishes that Jim is known for. I highly recommend it!

  • The Official Chris McGrath Illustration Website - Chris McGrath, in my humble opinion, is one of the better sci-fi/fantasy book cover illustrators out there! He has done the artwork for the Jim Butcher Dresden Files book covers, the Richard K. Morgan Kovacs book covers, and many many others! If you like those pieces of artwork, visit Chris’s website and order signed prints. Or order The Art of the Dresden Files 2009 calendar!
Happy Halloween, everyone! Be safe! Eat lots of candy! And be sure to brush your teeth before you go to bed!

The week started out so well. Sales figures were coming in very strongly on the first book in Del Rey’s collaboration with the Dabel Brothers comic book publishers: The Dresden Files: Welcome to the Jungle, an original story by Jim Butcher set in his fan-favorite universe starring Harry Dresden. The individual comics sold very well through spring and early summer. When our Del Rey hardcover, which collects the four individual issues into gorgeous four-color hardcover and adds lots of interesting background material on how the story was created, went on sale 10/14 it immediately starting flying out of the stores.

On Wednesday Bookscan released its sales figures, and Welcome to the Jungle appeared at #17 on the hardcover fiction list. (Bookscan is a database that tallies actual sales from bookstores and other outlets nationwide. It doesn’t cover 100% of the marketplace, but it’s the most accurate reference publishers have as to how our books are doing week by week.) My pulse rate went up. Bookscan doesn’t predict the New York Times bestseller list slot by slot, but it’s a very strong indicator for where, in general, a book will land. Welcome to the Jungle seemed a real possibility for the top 15, which is the part of the list that actually appears in print in the Times Sunday book section.

Wednesday evening came around, the Times list was released electronically to publishers, I fell upon it with glad cries … and was dashed to the rocks below. No Jim Butcher, anywhere. Not only was it missing from the top 15, it appeared nowhere in the Extended List. Nada. Zip. Much wailing and gnashing of teeth ensued.

So what did I learn this week? [more after the jump]
