In honor of one of my favorite sites, Go Fug Yourself, and just because it’s Friday, I thought I’d do a Comic Con spin off called Go Frak Yourself (thank you Kyle for that amazing name).

Now, let’s have a look see at what this fellow is wearing. This is what I like to imagine he was thinking while assembling his outfit in the morning:

Okay, have I got enough feathers to outfit an entire flock of birds? Check! I’m not sure that this outfit is QUITE revealing enough so why don’t I just fasten my loincloth right up at my hip so I can give a little leg. Yes… yes… it’s all coming together! Ronaldo (don’t ask me why that name popped into mind), you’ve still got it, you old dog! But wait, maybe that leg is too bare. It really needs something. I know, I’ve still got some leftover feathers! Why don’t I fashion a LEG BAND?? NO ONE WILL EXPECT IT!! I AM GENIUS!

OK. San Diego Comic Con is over and done and Team Suvudu is pretty well recuperated from exhaustion and jet lag and convention-borne respiratory ailments and everything else that comes with exhibiting at the big show.

But before we turn our attention to new things (like, say, the nigh-imminent New York Anime Festival) here’s one more reminder for us all of the reason why we do these conventions and why we love them so, starring videographer extraordinaire Jim Staylor and two special guests:

If you haven’t visited Christian Lander’s hilarious blog Stuff White People Like yet (or read his bestselling book based thereon) you’re simply missing out. A few moments with his satirical observations on the unbearable whiteness of being and you’ll be able to understand (and, perhaps, to exploit) folks of Caucasian persuasion like never before.

…because the Del Rey booth has been invaded by a couple of sinister strangers:

Being at Comic Con is something like slipping into an alternate universe, in which time both stops and stretches on forever, a universe that is contained entirely by the convention center, and is populated only by people dressed like the Joker. Now, on this, the last day of San Diego Comic Con, after five long days of panels, meetings, booth duty, author signings, business lunches, business dinners, award ceremonies, and all-night parties, what is it that keeps us going?

It is Ali Kokmen of Del Rey Manga, who has rallied us with his signature version of the “St Crispin’s Day” speech from Henry V—specially adapted for Comic-Con:

Just walking the show floor at Comic Con is pretty mind-blowing: There are epic monuments to geekdom everywhere. Take a look at some of the highlights after the jump:

After the doors to the convention center close, the parties begin! San Diego is very nearly a 24-7 sort of affair; the hours spent on the convention floor sometimes only form a sort of prequel. Last night I was at the Random House party, at which science fiction luminaries such as Alan Dean Foster and Naomi Novik mingled with comics stars such as Queenie Chan and Hiro Mashima. I was especially happy to spend some time with one of my authors, David Petersen, and his charming wife Julia; we had the honor of publishing his Mouse Guard in paperback this year.

If you haven’t yet read Mouse Guard, I give you permission to step away from Suvudu for a moment and read it now. It’s been compared variously to The Secret of Nimh, The Lord of the Rings, Watership Down, and Brian Jacques’ Redwall series, but David’s vision is singular, and his creation of his own world total and wholly persuasive.

David’s up for two Eisner Awards this year: Best Children’s Publication and Best Reprint Album. We wish him the best of luck tonight!

Just a little over 24 hours into the con and in this atmosphere of pure geek energy, we’re already going seriously native: publicist April and I just had a very intense discussion about the exact shade of Edward Cullen’s hair (we settled on deep bronze), as an addendum to the more usual debate about the suitability of Robert Pattinson for the role (I’m quite happy, whereas, for April, he shall always dearly be Cedric Diggory.) Over at the Summit Pictures booth, they’re handing out Twilight movie posters; I settled for gawking at the lovely life-sized cutouts of Edward and Bella. And over at Hachette, a rep is greeting Twilight fans with the most controversial question of all: “Ed or Jake, who do you love?” Weigh in with your answer in the comments.

Kelley Armstrong, author of No Humans Involved and Personal Demon, just concluded an in-booth signing at the Bantam Spectra booth at San Diego ComicCon. Loyal readers lined up to meet Kelley including one rabid fan who got all 13 of her books signed by the author.
